JEWELRY MAKING IN BALI

How to Choose a Silver Jewelry Class in Bali:
What to Look For Before Booking

Search for a silver jewelry class in Bali and you will find plenty of options.

The difficult part is not finding a workshop.

It is figuring out which one suits the experience you actually want.

Price matters, but so do the amount of silver included, class duration, level of participation, instructor support, design options, location, and possible additional costs.

A few minutes spent checking those details before booking can make the choice much easier.

Here is what to look for.

1. Decide what kind of experience you want

Start with yourself rather than the listings.

Are you mainly interested in learning how jewelry is made?

Do you want to spend as much time as possible working on the piece yourself?

Are you looking for something relaxed to do as a couple?

Do you prefer a smaller studio atmosphere, or would you enjoy a larger group setting?

Maybe your priority is simply making a particular design.

There is no single workshop format that suits everyone.

Knowing what matters most to you gives you something useful to compare.

2. Check what the workshop price actually includes

Two advertised prices are not necessarily directly comparable.

One workshop may include a different amount of silver, session length, or range of designs from another.

Before booking, check what the standard price covers.

Useful details include:

  • how much silver is included
  • how long the session lasts
  • what type of jewelry you can make
  • whether tools and equipment are included
  • whether you take the finished piece home
  • what may involve an additional charge

The headline price becomes much more useful once you know what sits behind it.

3. Find out how much silver is included

Silver is a physical part of what you are paying for, so the included allowance matters.

Different designs require different amounts.

A narrow, lightweight ring may use less material than a wider or heavier piece.

Ask two questions:

How much silver is included?

What does additional silver cost?

If you already know roughly what you want to make, you can also ask whether the included amount is likely to be suitable for that design.

This helps avoid choosing a workshop based on a price that does not reflect the piece you actually want.

4. Check the class duration

Jewelry making takes time.

The material has to move through several stages before it becomes a finished piece, and the exact work involved depends on the design.

Check how long the standard session lasts and whether that time is appropriate for what you want to make.

Also find out what happens if your design needs longer.

A longer class is not automatically better than a shorter one.

The more useful question is whether the workshop gives you enough time to participate meaningfully and finish an appropriate design without unnecessarily rushing the process.

5. Ask what “hands-on” actually means

The phrase “make your own jewelry” can sound straightforward, but it is worth understanding how the workshop approaches participation.

Ask what guests normally do themselves.

Does the instructor demonstrate the tools first?

Which stages can beginners participate in?

When does the instructor assist or step in?

Jewelry making can involve high heat and techniques that require greater control, so instructor involvement during certain stages is reasonable.

A hands-on workshop does not have to mean doing every technical process completely independently.

What matters is whether the level of participation matches the experience you are looking for.

6. Look at the instructor support and group setup

If you have never made jewelry before, access to guidance matters.

Check how many guests can attend a session and how instructor support works when several people are making jewelry at the same time.

A larger group is not automatically worse, and a smaller one is not automatically better.

What matters is whether the workshop is set up to provide appropriate guidance for its number of participants.

This is particularly worth considering if your chosen design involves techniques you have never used before.

7. Check what you can realistically make

A beautiful reference image does not necessarily tell you how difficult a piece is to produce.

Some designs require more silver.

Others need more time, additional components, special materials, or techniques that may not suit a beginner workshop.

Before booking around one particular idea, find out:

  • what jewelry types are available
  • whether you can bring your own reference
  • whether designs can be customized
  • whether gemstones or special additions are available
  • whether certain designs require additional time
  • whether there are practical limits to what can be completed

If a specific piece is important to you, discussing it beforehand is much better than discovering its limitations after you arrive.

8. Understand possible additional costs

Once you know the standard price, find out what can change it.

Depending on the workshop and your design, additional costs may apply to:

  • silver beyond the included allowance
  • additional workshop time
  • gemstones or other materials
  • custom or special work
  • plating or other additions
  • additional pieces
  • transportation

Additional charges are not inherently a problem.

Unexpected ones are.

The important thing is knowing when extra costs apply and having the opportunity to make a decision before additional work begins.

9. Check the actual location

Do not judge travel time from the word “Bali” alone.

Where the workshop is located can make a significant difference to how easily it fits into your day.

Check the actual location on a map and consider where you will be coming from.

Traffic conditions and travel times can vary, so a workshop that appears relatively close geographically may still require planning.

This becomes especially useful if the class is only one part of your day and you have other plans before or afterward.

10. Look at what previous guests actually made

Finished examples can tell you more than polished promotional images alone.

Look for jewelry made during actual workshop sessions.

It can help you understand the range of designs, finishes, and complexity that guests realistically complete.

Reviews can add another layer of information.

Instead of looking only at the overall rating, read what people say about the parts of the experience that matter to you:

  • instructor guidance
  • level of participation
  • communication
  • atmosphere
  • beginner friendliness
  • pacing
  • whether the actual experience matched expectations

The most useful review is not necessarily the most enthusiastic one.

It is the one that tells you something relevant to your decision.

11. Ask questions before booking

You do not need to interrogate a workshop with a twenty-point questionnaire.

But if something important is unclear, ask.

A useful shortlist is:

  1. How long is the workshop?
  2. How much silver is included?
  3. What does additional silver cost?
  4. What can I make?
  5. Can I bring a reference image?
  6. How much of the process will I do myself?
  7. Do I need previous experience?
  8. How many guests can attend a session?
  9. What can involve an additional charge?
  10. Where exactly is the workshop?
  11. Is transportation included?

You may only care about three or four of those questions.

Ask the ones that affect your decision.

How does Bali Jewelry Masterclass compare?

Bali Jewelry Masterclass is a hands-on jewelry-making workshop held at our home studio in Dalung, North Kuta.

The standard workshop includes two hours, up to 6 grams of silver per guest, tools and equipment, instructor guidance, and one finished piece per guest.

No previous jewelry-making experience is required.

Guests can book individually, as a couple, or in groups of up to 20 people.

Current workshop prices are:

  • Single — IDR 650,000 per person
  • Couple — IDR 600,000 per person
  • Small Group, 3–10 people — IDR 575,000 per person
  • Large Group, 11–20 people — IDR 550,000 per person

Additional silver beyond the included allowance is IDR 95,000 per gram.

Additional workshop time is IDR 50,000 per 30 minutes.

Special additions such as gemstones, custom work, or plating may involve additional costs depending on the design, materials, and work required.

Transportation is not included in the standard workshop price.

If additional material, time, or special work is required for your design, the requirement and estimated cost will be explained before that extra work begins.

So which silver jewelry class should you choose?

There is no universal “best” silver jewelry class in Bali.

There is only the one that fits what you want from the experience.

Before booking, compare:

  • what is included in the price
  • how much silver you receive
  • class duration
  • what you can make
  • how hands-on the workshop is
  • instructor support
  • group setup
  • additional costs
  • location
  • examples and reviews from previous guests

Then decide which of those things matter most to you.

If your priority is making a specific design, focus on design flexibility.

If you mainly want to learn, look closely at participation and instructor guidance.

If convenience matters most, location may carry more weight.

Choosing becomes much easier once you stop looking for the workshop that is supposedly best for everyone and start looking for the one that makes sense for you.
